Are all ReAuthored cases the same?

Nope...that's the best part! From the book we use to the left page we select to the way the fabric lays, each ReAuthored case is completely unique and all it's own.

Where do these books come from?

Everywhere! We didn't realize it until we started looking but there are literally books everywhere. The number of books that are discarded and turned into everyday items like toilet paper and paper towels is unimaginable. Thrift stores, garage sale, and book sales are typically the last chance for a book to find a home so we do our best to obtain the leftover books at dirt cheap prices. We are also coordinating with some librarians to acquire the books that their library is sending to recycling.

How do you select which book to use for which case?

Typically, books are selected at random with precaution taken not to use anything that could be potentially offensive or is religious in nature. In addition, care is taken to ensure that the book is an appropriate size for the device that it will hold.

What we do is an art and we are artists so we do ask that a certain amount of trust is put into our selection of the book that is used. Almost all of the cases you will see on our website, Etsy, Amazon, and eBay were books and left pages that we selected ourselves. If you don't see anything that you like on any of those sites, then we do suggest that you obtain your own book to be converted into a case so that we can ensure that your case is a good reflection of you. Please see FAQ #4 for more info on using your own book.

What if I have a book I want to use for my case?

No problem! As long as the book you have selected is the appropriate size for your device, we have no problem converting it to a case for you. As a general rule of thumb, we need the book to be at least 1” taller and 1” wider than the device and the pages must be thick enough to cover the device with at least 5-10 pages to spare. What if I want a specific type of book but I don't have my own to use?

If you'd prefer a specific type of book (i.e. art, history, science, etc), please include so in the 'notes' section of your order. However, please keep in mind that we do obtain our books for little to no cost in exchange for saving them from the recycling bin so we have little control over the types of books that we get. We will always do our best to accommodate a request but we cannot always do so depending on the type of case or the genre of book. If we do not have something that meets your request, you will have one of 3 options... (1) waiting until we find a book that falls into your preference(s) (2) moving forward with your order and allowing us to choose the book and left page for your case or (3) requesting a full refund.

When making special book genre requests, please consider the following... (1) the biggest and smallest devices have the fewest options for books. For example, the Toshiba Thrive is one of the largest/thickest tablets and does not leave us with many book options that are an acceptable size AND weight for the device. (2) different types of books generally come in different sizes. For example, books on cell biology tend to be textbook sized and are way too big for a Nook Simple Touch; on the flip side, books on philosophy/philosophers tend to be small novel-sized books and are not big enough for the iPad 2. (3) please make sure your request is not too specific. For example, requesting a book on basketball is typically not a problem for us...however, requesting a book on the Atlanta Hawks basketball team is going to be a tough one for us to find. If you are interested in a very specific type of book, we suggest that you obtain the book to be converted into your case...see FAQ #4 for more info on using your own book.

What is the exterior of the case covered with?

The cases can be left uncovered so that the exterior of the case is the original book or they can be covered in a thick jacquard fabric offered in 3 colors...black, light brown, and dark brown.

What if I want access to the charger/headphone port/power button/volume buttons/etc.?

We can add access to your case for any/all ports or buttons for an additional charge of $5 per port/button. For example, if you would like both charger and headphone port access, we would bill you for the additional $10 via PayPal. A couple of things to note... (1) We will cut a notch out of the side of the case for port/button access which means that the book no longer looks like just a book from the outside. In addition, the sturdiness of the case is slightly compromised when notches are cut out. The case will still provide great protection and should hold up for years but we do suggest that they be handled a little more carefully. (2) We cannot cut notches out on the spine side of the book without ruining the case so all notches must be on the top, bottom, or right side of the case. For access to ports or buttons on the spine side of the book, we suggest doing port access on the right side of the book so that the device just needs to be turned upside down.

How long does it take for you to make and mail my case?

Please allow 2-5 business days for us to make and mail your case. For special requests or additional customization of your case, there may be a longer wait time.

Does ReAuthored ship internationally?

Yes! The cost to ship internationally ranges from $10-$20 depending on location. After you enter your shipping information into the website during checkout (and before you finalize your order), you will be given the applicable shipping cost information.

How are the cases mailed and when should I expect mine?

As soon as your case is in the mail, we will send an email letting you know that it has been shipped along with a USPS tracking number for you to use to track your package at USPS.com. Unless otherwise specified, all cases being shipped within the United states are shipped via USPS Media Mail and all cases being shipped internationally are shipped via First Class Mail. According to USPS, Media Mail typically arrives within 2-9 business days and First Class international shipping typically arrives within 1-3 weeks.

How does the exterior strap work?

The exterior strap is permanently affixed to the back of the case at the top, middle, and bottom which prevents it from “dangling” while the case is open. It ensures that the case stays closed when not in use.

Why does the website look different when I go to check out?

Our website is hosted by this great company Shopify out of Canada. Because of the way their hosting is set up, and to ensure the utmost security, the checkout process is always redirected through Shopify's SSL certified website, thus explaining the slight change in the appearance of the site during checkout.

Can I buy a ReAuthored case from a retailer?

At this time, Poppy in downtown Columbia, MO is the only retailer selling ReAuthored cases and taking custom orders.

Why isn't Arrested Development still on the air?

Originally, we would've said it was because we are being punished for the 90's. However, the unthinkable has happened and Arrested Development will be releasing12 new episodes leading up to their movie in 2012!!
